 Cawker Building
108 West Wells Street
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Project Description: The building, vacant when the project started, was converted to 20 "buyer improved" condominium units, ranging from 775 square feet to nearly 4000 square feet. Miller Architectural Group provided a full range of architectural services for the project, including construction administration support. In addition, the firm provided design services for the majority of the condominium buyers, providing unique, custom architectural and interior design.
In addition to the standard permitting procedure, the project required approval by the Milwaukee Historic Plan Commission. The firm made intelligent use of Wisconsin's Historic Building Code, and also aided in submittal of the project to the Wisconsin State Historic Society and the National Park Service for historic preservation tax credits.
The project, started in 1995 and completed in 1997 (the building's centennial) was the first of a recent wave of housing developments built Downtown, centering on the new Milwaukee RiverWalk.
The Project takes advantage of its prime location in the center of Milwaukee's Downtown renaissance, providing breathtaking views of the Milwaukee River and Downtown for every unit.
